Winemaker Mark Vlossek and I wanted to make a wine together. Mark owns St. Innocent winery in Oregon, one of the top producers of Pinot Noir in the world, and an incredible under-rated Chablis-style Chardonnay. We decided to make a single vineyard Pinot Noir from the Momtazi Vineyard, a high, steep and wind swept vineyard. Fūjin is the God of wind from Japanese mythology, and he seemed to represent the vineyard, if not preside over it. I brought a little bit of Australian style to St. Innocent and the result was stunning even to Mark. These wines are rare but worth seeking out, available at St. Innocent and occasionally from this web site.
