Stephen Coates has been art director at Blueprint, Eye, Tate and Sight & Sound magazines. He ran a studio in partnership with Tony Arefin designing catalogues and posters for arts institutions. He also launched August, a publishing imprint and design consultancy, with Nick Barley producing books and catalogues about design, architecture and fine arts. He has redesigned New Scientist, Music Week, and with Simon Esterson, Building Design, Pulse and New Statesman.
He is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale and his work has been widely published and shown in several exhibitions including ‘Communicate: British Graphic Design Since the Sixties’ at the Barbican, 2005.
